Why Christmas Plays a Big Role in my Small Business

When I started my business, I had two key goals in mind: I wanted it to be fun, with plenty of opportunities to be creative, and I wanted to build it with the mindset of a bigger, established brand. From the beginning, I’ve run “How To Not Hate Your Clothes” as if it were already a large, thriving company.

Back in August, while sitting on Broad Beach in Rhosneigr, Anglesey, I found myself mentally brainstorming ideas for a Christmas campaign. I wanted it to be joyful and perfectly aligned with the values of my business—warm, approachable, and confidence-boosting.

Just like my love for colour, Christmas has long been a personal obsession of mine. Particularly, I’m drawn to the magic of Christmas decorations—the ability to create something beautiful and comforting in the depths of winter. I vividly remember moving into my first home, a tiny bedsit in Macclesfield, and struggling to make ends meet. With a low wage and sky-high bills, it would have been easy to slip into a winter slump.

But there was one thing that lifted my spirits: decorating for Christmas. My very first decoration, a little wooden angel I found in a charity shop on Macclesfield Street, still has a place of honor in my home each year. Slowly, I added to my collection, picking up small pieces year after year. When Duncan and I started living together, I was overjoyed to discover that he couldn’t imagine a Christmas without a real tree! It felt like I’d found someone who loved the festive season as much as I did. That first Christmas, I splurged on some beautiful champagne-coloured glass baubles, marking the beginning of something truly special in our home.

Friends and family know that Christmas decorating is my passion. They love to tease me about how quickly I jump at the chance to deck out our home with multiple trees now that we’ve moved to Tytherington.

And when it comes to my business, it’s no surprise that Christmas has become a key part of it, too.

Many people choose to give the gift of a colour analysis to their loved ones, and I want to make that experience feel as special as possible. While a simple voucher can do the job, nothing beats the joy of unwrapping a beautiful present. That’s why I’ve carefully curated my Christmas gift boxes. I’ve selected items that I believe everyone can enjoy, and I smile every time I imagine someone opening one of these boxes on Christmas morning.

So if you're looking for a unique, thoughtful gift that will make someone feel great inside and out, a colour analysis wrapped in one of my festive boxes could be the perfect choice. It’s not just a gift; it’s an experience, and I’m here to help make it unforgettable.
