My Top 3 Style and Colour Books for Confident Dressing

If you're on a journey to feel more confident and stylish, diving into the world of style and colour can be transformative. Here are three of my favourite books that offer invaluable insights and practical advice on how to elevate your wardrobe and embrace your unique style.

1. How to Not Wear Black by Jules Standish

In How to Not Wear Black, Jules Standish delves into the psychology of colour and how it affects our mood, perception, and overall appearance. Standish argues that while black is often seen as a safe and slimming choice, it might not be the most flattering or mood-boosting colour for everyone. Through her book, she’ll provide you with the tools to discover your  best colours and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe. Even better, she was one of my tutors at LCS!

Why It's Useful:

Standish's approach is enlightening for those who have defaulted to black without considering other options. She highlights how wearing the right colours can enhance your natural beauty and boost your confidence. This book is perfect for anyone looking to break out of the monotony of black and explore a more vibrant, personalised wardrobe.

2. Fearless by Trinny Woodall

Trinny Woodall, renowned for her dynamic personality and bold fashion advice, brings us Fearless. This book is all about empowering women to take bold fashion risks and step out of their comfort zones. Woodall's no-nonsense approach encourages readers to experiment with their style, embrace their individuality, and wear what makes them feel powerful and beautiful. Shes been a huge inspiration for me right back from the “What not to wear” era.

Why It's Useful:

Fearless is a must-read for those who find themselves stuck in a style rut or afraid to try new trends. Woodall's spirited guidance helps women build confidence in their style choices and encourages a fearless attitude towards fashion. Her tips are practical and actionable, making it easier for readers to implement changes and see immediate results. The photography is fabulous and the whole book is packed with inspiration.

3. Style Chapters by Erica Davies

Erica Davies' Style Chapters is a beautifully curated guide that takes readers through different "chapters" of style, reflecting various stages of life and personal evolution. Davies shares her own style journey, offering relatable anecdotes, style tips, and practical advice on how to adapt your wardrobe to fit your lifestyle and personal growth. You’ve heard of Girl Maths? This is style maths, with pages packed with outfit formulas you can actually use.

Why It's Useful:

Davies' book is particularly useful for women who feel that their style needs to evolve along with their life changes. Whether you're navigating a new job, motherhood, or simply a desire to refresh your look, *Style Chapters* provides a thoughtful and inspirational roadmap. Davies' emphasis on personal stories makes the book relatable and engaging, while her style advice is practical and easy to apply.

Final Thoughts

Each of these books offers a unique perspective on style and colour, providing practical advice and inspiration to help you feel more confident in your fashion choices. Whether you're looking to break free from the all-black wardrobe, embrace a fearless approach to fashion, or adapt your style to life's changes, these books are invaluable resources. Happy reading, and here's to a more confident, colourful you!
